Franchisees Genevieve Knauff and Bert Hennessey rely on franchisor support to make their Booster Juice store a success
Why did you become a franchisee?
My business partner, Bert Hennessey, and I own and operate other businesses that have cyclical markets. We were looking to further diversify our portfolio and a second franchise made financial sense. Our first Booster Juice store is co-located with another franchise we own and there are fantastic synergies between the operations in management and human resources. Both Bert and I had little experience in the food industry and we relied on the information, resources and support offered by Booster Juice. We were confident they would be with us throughout the journey to make sure we were successful. We continue to be impressed with the programs and supports offered by the company and look forward to growing the brand in Northwestern Ontario.
How did you learn about your franchise and what made you choose it?
One of our children, Carly, fell in love with Booster Juice while playing hockey at the Hockey Training Institute (HTI) in southern Ontario. She asked us to investigate the opportunity. We flew to the Booster Juice corporate office in Toronto and met with Glenn Tucker. The introduction to Booster Juice was thorough and the opportunity intrigued us. We felt that Booster Juice embraced the values and goals that Bert and I strive to achieve. That meeting occurred in July of 2016, and by February 2017, our first Booster Juice store in Thunder Bay was open. We are opening our second location in November 2017 and our third early in 2018.
What do you love most about being a franchisee?
a. It is an absolute blast being a Booster Juice franchise partner! We love welcoming people into our store and introducing customers to the company and our products. We love how loyal our customers are to the Booster Juice brand. Our customers love the smoothies, juices, wraps and Paninis. We love being associated with a company that offers quality products and values the importance of being a good corporate citizen. The support offered by Booster Juice is second to no one and their concept is proven and easily replicated in virtually all markets.
What are your top three tips for success?
- Understand the financial statements; get to know your Profit and Loss statement. The key to success in your franchise business is understanding your P&L and shifting resources to address any problems it identifies.
- Be honest with the franchisor about your expectations and goals for your store. It is important to understand the financial and time commitments required to make your franchise a success. Be prepared to commit the time necessary to establish your Booster Juice store and develop strong ties with the community, which will ensure your long-term success.
- Make sure your family is supportive of becoming a franchise partner. Owning and operating a franchise is a family commitment and everyone should talk openly about the opportunity before committing to it. Our Booster Juice store is a bright, friendly and energizing place to be and work. Your whole family will find themselves at the store every day and enjoy connecting with people in the community. Bert and I look forward to the day when our children will own and operate our Booster Juice stores.
